Lisa graduated in 1984 from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts with an AB in biology and art history. She worked fundraising for non-profit organizations in Portland, Maine for several years before attending the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine graduating with a DO degree in 1994. She did her internship and residency at Maine Dartmouth Family Practice in Fairfield, Maine graduating in 1998. After residency she practiced for three years at the DFD Russell Medical Center in Leeds, Maine then took a hiatus from family practice to work per diem in the emergency room at Maine General Medical Center. She is board certified in family medicine and has special interests in women's health and international medicine.
